“[Karacagil] decided to join the Kurdish independence struggle in prison by going to the mountains [joining the PKK] with the name ‘Destan Yörük’ as her alias,” it was stated in Yeni Özgür Politika newspaper.

The daily paper’s report was confirmed by Karacagil’s mother. The young woman spent 4 months in prison following her arrest. Her ‘red foulard’ was linked to socialism by prosecutors during her interrogations.
