“I was shot in the back when I was facing back to the station. I am sure that fire was shot from the gendarmerie station” said Rondia, who was shot during the protests against the construction to the gendarmerie station in Lice.

Rodina Pervane was shot through her left shoulder by an army bullet during the protest against the construction of a new gendarmerie station in the village Kayacik, Lice. She said, “I was shot in the back when I was facing back to the gendarmerie. I am sure that fire was shot from the gendarmerie station”

Rodina Pervane (20) recounts her story as follows: “We took to the road from the Yalaza Village to protest the construction of the new gendarmerie station. The protest had started at 14:30 with 250 people. We had issued a press statement at 15:00. After the press statement, a group of protesters tried to enter the gendarmerie station. The soldiers fired their guns up to the air at first, and then to the protesters. I was at the back of the group. When I was facing back to the gendarmerie station, I was shot through my shoulder. However, the authorities claim that they only responded with tear gas and only one of the protesters had been shot and killed as a result. This claim is groundless. Because, in the course of the event, I was facing back to gendarmerie and there were no protesters behind me. I am sure that I was shot by gendarmerie.”

Ronida’s uncle, who tells us that her condition was getting better, protests the situation as “In most of the villages here, there are no running water, no roads, no schools and no hospitals. But in nearly all villages there is at least one gendarmerie. Despite of this, they are constructing more and more gendarmeries. Our protests begin in this point.”
