Send The Necessary Evidence…

Today I talked to Nonlethal Technologies Company in United States, from which Turkish police provides most of CN and Cs gas. The man on the phone was the same person that I asked a week ago whether being exposed to this amount of gas would affect my health or not. This time the point I wanted to make was about how police misused these gases.

I will share the dialogue with you this time;

I: Is there anything you can do about your products that says they should be fired with 45 degrees angle from a certain distance, being fired directly and targeted on people from a minimum distance?

Nonlethal Technologies Officer: Actually we received a few videos from Turkey this week, but the videos were of rubber bullets being fired. Those were not our products, for that reason we couldn’t do anything.

I: What if I send you videos of more than 1 CN or CS gas being fired directly at people?

Nonlethal Technologies Officer: Of course, you must send these to us.

I: Can you give an example incident similar that happened before? How did things evolve when you received evidence of your products being misused in other countries?

Nonlethal Technologies Officer: Let me say this first, when we contact our customer with that, generally customer doesn’t accept it. They would say not to believe everything. Another thing is I have met senior Turkish police officers here and as they were test-firing with our gas, even though we suggested them that in military level interference the usage distance was 7 meters, they wanted to test-fire from 15 meters distance. Because they told us they wouldn’t be firing below this distance.

I: Ok, the senior police officers that visited you might really think like that. However, this somehow didn’t reflect to Turkish Police’s attitude and 4 people died. Yesterday everybody in Taksim Square wore safety helmet, this was because no one wanted to be killed by police.

Nonlethal Technologies Officer: I understand. Definitely send me the videos; we’ll see what we can do.

I: Thank you very much. Sorry about disturbing you with this, unfortunately I can’t trust my police. I’ve been extremely sorry about people that died, and the idea of the ones who might is very tiring. I had to do something, so I called you. Thank you for listening and not rejecting me by saying “Sorry, we can’t do anything.” Can I have your name?

Nonlethal Technologies Officer: I wouldn’t like to give my name for now. I don’t want an adverse position.

I: Ok, so as I e-mail I will address To Whom It May Concern, with “Misuse of CS and CN gas against protestors in Turkey” as the subject and e-mail to sales@nonlethaltechnologies.com .

Dear friends, even if you don’t write anything in the mails, if you have proper videos, photos you can directly send them to me or contact me, or as I stated you can e-mail to the address above.

What kind of use is misuse?

-         Being fired in crowds with possibility of hitting someone in the head.

-         Being fired with an angle below 45 degrees.

-         Being fired directly targeted at people or animals.

-         The thing being fired isn’t plastic bullet but CS or CN gas.

Be careful especially about the last one, plastic bullet photos were already sent to them this week. This is not their concern.

Nonlethal Technologies officer is aware of the situation here, and if we want them on our side let’s please send them the necessary evidence.

Greetings,

İpek Tanyaş
