Education and Science Workers’ Union, Halkevleri, ODP and EMEP came together to commemorate the loss of Metin Lokumcu and show solidarity with Gezi Park resistance. The press release was read by the secretary of the Ankara branch of Confederation of Public Workers’ Unions. Karabey stated that the resistance and struggle for rights were rising all across the country. He added that the people were were on an honorable road toward equality and freedom. The public walked on Izzet Baysal Street and the number of participants increased downtown.  Approximately, 1000 people had a sit-down protest on E-5 and shut down the traffic. They saluted Taksim with their chants during this two-hour protest.On the 5th of June, academicians, teachers and non-governmental organizations came together for the strike organized by the Education and Science Workers’ Union and made a press release. The resistance in Taksim was saluted.

On the 7th of June, the sit-down and book-reading protest started at 7 PM in front of the banks on Izzet Baysal Street. People, who came from Halkevi to the site of demonstration, chanted “Everywhere Taksim, everywhere resistance”, “Shoulder to shoulder against fascism”, “One thousand hellos to people who fall or fight in Taksim” and sang “Are you a looter vay vay” from Bogazici University Jazz Choir. The group received a lot of attention and support as by-passers also joined the protest. Another group, who was holding a demonstration on the southern part of the city, also joined the big crowd around 10 PM. This exciting demonstration finished around 11 PM with the promise of “We’ll continue our fight tomorrow.”
