82 university students have been indefinitely expelled from state-run student residences in the northern province of Samsun for being detained during Gezi Resistance protests – a penalty that also included the suspension of their scholarships and loans.

“On June 1, the aforementioned students have been detained by the police for resisting and assaulting police officers, public property damage,” the expulsion document cited.

The “indefinite expulsion” order was based on the violation of Student Residences Code Article 23/e, which banned “resisting or assaulting public law enforcement officials, or owning weapons”.

Students were also deprived of their scholarships and loans according to High Education Loans and Residences Code Article 25 and Educational Loans Code Article 28 and Loans-Credits Code Article 28. 82 students will no longer benefit from scholarships and loans.(BK/BM)
